SSC Junior Engineers(JE) Exam 2013 – Notification, Syllabus, Selection Process, etc.
Staff Selection Commission(SSC) invites applications from the eligible candidates for the Combined All India Open Examination for recruitment to the posts of JUNIOR ENGINEER (CIVIL) and JUNIOR ENGINEER (ELECTRICAL) in Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and Department of Posts; JUNIOR ENGINEER (CIVIL), JUNIOR ENGINEER(ELECTRICAL & MECHANICAL), JUNIOR ENGINEER (Quantity Surveying and Contract) in Military Engineering Service (MES); JUNIOR ENGINEER (CIVIL and MECHANICAL) in Central Water Commission (CWC) and Farakka Barrage, for which Degree or Diploma in Civil or Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an institution recognized by Govt. of India or equivalent qualification is the
minimum qualification.

Last Date of Part 1 Registration: 13/03/2013
Last Date of Part 2 Registration: 15/03/2013
Written Exam Date: 26/05/2013

Selection Process:
The selection process will comprise of a Written Examination(500 Marks) followed by Interview(100 Marks).
Syllabus for SSC Junior Engineers(JE) Exam 2013:
Paper 1: It would comprise of General Intelligence and Reasoning(Verbal and Non-Verbal), General Awareness(Current Affairs, Science, Polity, Economics, etc.) and General Engineering (Civil and Structural, Electrical & Mechanical). For reasoning and current affairs, check out these books.
Paper 2: It would consists of General Engineering subjects in detail. For General Engineering, check out the syllabus below which would be helpful in both Paper 1 and Paper 2:
Civil Engineering:
Building Materials, Estimating, Hydraulics, Irrigation Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Costing and Valuation, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Environmental Engineering.
Structural Engineering – Theory of Structures, RCC Design, Concrete Technology, Steel Design.
Electrical Engineering:
Basic concepts, Circuit law, Fractional Kilowatt Motors and single phase induction Motors, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Magnetic Circuit, AC Fundamentals, Measurement and Measuring instruments, Electrical Machines, Estimation and Costing, Utilization and Electrical Energy, Basic Electronics.
Mechanical Engineering –
Theory of Machines and Machine Design, Engineering Mechanics and Strength of Materials, Properties of Pure Substances, Nozzles & Steam Turbines. Properties & Classification of Fluids, Fluid Statics, Measurement of Fluid Pressure, Fluid kinematics, Dynamics of Ideal fluids, Measurement of Flow rate, basic principles, Hydraulic Turbines, Centrifugal Pumps, Engines Combustion, IC Engine Cooling & Lubrication, Rankine cycle of System, Boilers, Classification, 1st Law of Thermodynamics, 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, Air standard Cycles for IC Engines, IC Engine Performance, Specification, Fitting & Accessories, Air Compressors & their cycles, Refrigeration cycles, Principle of Refrigeration Plant, Classification of steels.
