Best Books for SSC CGL Tier 2(Mains) Preparation 2013

Staff Selection Commission conducted the CGL Tier 1 exam on April 21 and May 19, 2013. You can check out SSC CGL 2013 Question papers, answer keys, cutoff and results here. There were mixed emotions from candidates about Tier 1 exam. Some felt April 21 exam was tough and some felt that there was not much difference among the both CGL Tier 1 exam.

Whatever it was, now it is time to start preparing for SSC CGL Tier 2(Mains) exam 2013. You can cover up all the marks you’ve lost in Tier 1 exam easily in Tier 2 exam.

SSC CGL Tier 1 exam was of 200 marks. Now the CGL Tier 2 exam would be of 400 marks. There would be only two sections viz. Quantitative Aptitude and English Language. Both the sections would be of 200 marks.

Here’s the paper pattern of SSC CGL Tier 2(Mains) Exam 2013:

1) Numerical/Quantitative Aptitude: 100 Questions, 200 Marks, 2 Hours
2) English Language: 200 Questions, 200 Marks, 2 Hours

In mathematics, the focus should on four sections viz. Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry and Mensuration. These four sections would carry maximum marks.

If you have opted for Statistical Investigator, there will be a Paper 3(Statistics) also.(200 Marks, 2 Hours)

a) Quantitative Aptitude For Competitive Examinations by R. S. Aggarwal One of the best book for basic Quantitative/Numerical Aptitude. It will help you cover all the basics of mathematics.

b) SSC Combined Graduate Level Tier-II Exam, Arithmetical Ability Objective Type by Kiran Prakashan: Certainly, the best for SSC CGL Tier 2(Mains) preparation. This book is specially designed for SSC CGL Tier 2 exam with detailed explanation of topics according to the new syllabus and hundreds of previous years’ question papers. So, these are some of the best books for SSC CGL Tier 2 preparation. Apart from these books, read newspaper everyday to improve you vocabulary and language. In mathematics, the more your practice, the faster you would be able to solve questions during two hours of exam time. There is still lots of time left for the CGL Tier 2 exam. SSC CGL (May 19, 2013) – Answer Key, Question Papers & Cutoff

SSC(Staff Selection Commission) conducted the CGL Tier 1 exam on May 19, 2013. It was earlier scheduled on April 14, 2013 but later postponed. It was the second Tier 1 conducted by SSC in the last two months. First one was conducted on April 21, 2013 – you can find question papers, answer key and other details about that CGL Tier 1 2013 paper here.

SSC CGL Exam 2013 Analysis:

As expected, the General awareness was really tough and needed deep study. English section was average. Reasoning section was easy. Mathematics section was tricky and time consuming but easy for ones with good preparation. Like the previous Tier 1 exam, the emphasis was given to topics such as Geometry, Trigonometry, DI and Algebra.

SSC CGL Exam 2013 Cutoff:

As this exam was on the average side and last SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam held on April 21, 2013 was on the difficult side, the expected cut off is around 85-90+ for General candidates. There are chances(very remote though) that SSC might do equalization of marks based on easy and difficulty level of different question papers. So, don’t worry, if your exam was on April 21, 2013.

SSC CGL Exam 2013 Results:

SSC will announce the results of Tier 1 exam within next six weeks. Till then, you can check answer keys and start preparng for Tier 2(Mains) exam which is scheduled in September, 2013.

SSC CGL 2013 Answer Key, Question Papers, Cutoff, Analysis & Results 2013

SSC(Staff Selection Commission) conducted the CGL(Common Graduate Level) exam on April 21, 2013. The paper was conducted in two sessions – Morning and Evening. It was the first of the two papers – Tier 1 and Tier 2 followed by interview. The CGL Tier 1 exam will again be conducted on May 19, 2013. It was earlier scheduled on April 14, 2013 but later postponed due to Ambedkar Jayanti.
SSC conducts CGL exam every year for selection in various government cadres such as Income Tax inspector, Excise Inspector, Auditor, etc.

SSC CGL Exam 2013 Analysis:

According to preliminary reports from the students, the General Awareness part of the paper was really tough. Other than that, it was the usual SSC CGL exam with some easy questions, some tricky and some little tough. In Maths, again like previous year, the focus was on Geometry, Trigonometry, DI & Algebra. Overall, students really felt difficulty in the General Awareness section.

SSC CGL Exam 2013 Cutoff:

Given the tough General Awareness section, the expected cut off marks for CGL Tier 1 exam would be pretty much same as last year. So, you can start preparing now for the Tier 2 exam to get better marks.
Update: The CGL Tier 1 exam held on May 19, 2013 was quite easy as compared to the one held on April 21, 2013 exam. Read more about CGL May 19 analysis here. Now, considering both exams, the expected cut off will be around 85-90+(For UR) this time. And don’t worry guys if your exam was on April 21, there are chances(though very less) that SSC may do equalization of marks based on the difficulty level.

SSC CGL 2013 Paper Postponed(Cancelled) – New Exam Date & Admit Cards

In a shocking news today, SSC has postponed the Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2013 which was to be held on 14th April 2013 and now it will be held on 28th April 2013 (Sunday). This come as a shock to all the candidates who were preparing day and night for the SSC CGL preparation.

According to the information on the regional websites such as http://sscnr.net.in/, http://www.sscmpr.org/, http://www.ssc-cr.org/, and official website www.ssc.nic.in(Click here for the link), the examination has been postponed on account of closed holiday due to birthday of Dr. BR Ambedkar. This is the second time, such thing has happened as FCI exam was also canceled due to the mismanagement of SSC. It seems SSC new chief is not able to handle things properly. Many people are also claiming that there is something fishy going on in the Staff Selection Commission. Read this tweet(dated March 6, 2013) by SSC Ex Chief N.K.RAGHUPATHY claiming that “There may be pressure on SSC to postpone the CGL exam because someone’s ward is appearing for some other exam on that day!”

Another shock regarding the postponement is that the new exam date is clashing with SBI PO exam. So, students now would have to choose either of these exams. Many students are planning to visit SSC regional offices and request in written to change the date of April 28 to May 5, 2013. You are also requested to visit SSC office or leave them an Email or Fax to strengthen the objection and help thousand of students who want to give both the CGL and SBI PO exams.

Update: SSC has updated the Central region website with the new CGL exam date for the students whose paper was on April 14, 2013. The CGL Exam 2013 now will be held on May 19, 2013. The Junior Engineers (Civil and Electrical) Exam 2013 which was scheduled to be conducted on May 19, 2013 will now be conducted on June 9, 2013. SSC CGL Job Profiles: Excise Inspector, Income Tax Inspector(ITI), Assistant & Cypher in MEA, CBI, Assistants, etc.

SSC CGL exam is around the corner. You can read the notification here. Many aspirants who are filling the form for the first time are confused regarding the job profiles in the CGL examination. Let’s talk about all the job profiles in SSC CGL Examination.

There are two types of Jobs in SSC CGL Examination:

A) Desk Jobs: These include jobs such as Assistants, Tax assistants, Auditors, Accountants, upper division clerks, etc. The working hours of desk jobs are fixed such as 9-5. (in almost all cases, except Assistant (Cypher). There are no uniforms and weapons. Social status and power is also less as compared to field jobs. Desk jobs are good if you are not concerned about earning lots of money and want a social and family life.

B) Field Jobs: These include jobs such as Excise Inspectors, Income tax inspectors, preventive officers, examiners, narcotics, CBI, etc. There is of traveling involved such as inspections, carrying out raids, surveillance etc. You will have to work on weekends also. Social status and power is high in field jobs. Also includes uniforms and weapon training.

Total Number of Vacancies for SSC CGL Exam 2013

SSC has published the recruitment notice for Common Graduate Level examination, 2013. You can find more details about that here. SSC has made few changes to the paper pattern this time. There will a subjective written examination after Tier 1 and Tier 2 exam to make sure that only bonafide candidates get selected.
